There remains a great deal of ignorance among medical staff about ME and especially severe ME. There is little training in medical school and the quality of care for patients, especially in hospital varies considerably. I would recommend the highly acclaimed book Severe ME/CFS: A Guide to Living by Emily Collingridge which was designed to be a definitive reference tool for anyone affected by severe ME whether personally or professionally. It addresses every aspect of the symptoms and needs of patients including chapters on hospital and a quick reference for professionals. It is sold at cost by the charity Action for ME and more information about the book can be found at www.severeme.info Although written in 2010 (a third edition was published in 2022), it is sadly still relevant today as illustrated by the frightening predicament of a young woman with severe ME who has been in hospital for over a year and is fighting for appropriate treatment to say her life.
