About me
My work has always been driven by a curiosity about how healthcare systems really work—and how we can make them safer for the people who receive and deliver care. I began my career as a nurse, later moving into healthcare simulation, research and workforce development. Over time, my focus has increasingly shifted from using simulation simply to teach, towards using it to understand systems: surfacing hidden risks, bringing different perspectives together, testing change and creating opportunities for organisations to see themselves differently.
This led to my work developing Transformative Simulation, which explores how simulation can support improvement, inclusion, insight and wider organisational and system transformation.
I come to the Patient Safety Learning Hub because I believe meaningful changes in safety depend on connecting knowledge and experience that too often sit separately—patients and families, frontline staff, educators, researchers, leaders and policymakers. The Hub creates an important space for those perspectives to meet, for learning to be shared, and for us to ask not only what went wrong, but what we can collectively learn and change as a result.
