Does anyone have experience with using low dose DOACs for thromboprophylaxis for inpatients instead of LMWH when patients refuse?

Recommended Posts

If patients refuse LMWH with/without capacity - should they be offered the option to have low dose DOACs?

Does any hospitals do this in practice routinely?

Hi,

Yes that's correct.

With DOACs, I was interested in knowing if anywhere uses 10mg rivaroxaban or 2.5mg BD apixaban in patients who refuse prophylactic LMWH

Thanks

See Alex's comment on the chemical thromboprophylaxis thread - they have just started using apixaban 2.5mg BD in this context.

Hi Becs, I'm not getting on very well with this platform. How do I find, for example, the chemical thromboprophylaxis thread you mention above as it's not visible to me in the topics list? Thanks

Hi Simon.

If you go to the Communities section from the homepage and then select "Patient safety in health and care" then "high risk areas"; VSN should be listed there. Other members have had issues accessing so if you find that VSN isn't there as an option then let me know by email ([email protected]).

The "cheat sheet" is attached with screenshots which explain the above, and ways of sharing resources.
