As a Patient Safety Partner I feel that working in partnership with patients is essential in reducing harm. In my opinion the sooner "The Framework Part A" is implemented based on NHSE Patient Safety Strategy the better. This should move us away from a Paternalistic Model of Care to a Mutual Participation Model of Care, and then I believe we will see more learning, reduced harm by preventing deterioration of the patient leading to good patient outcomes. I like this article very much, because the patient is truly at the centre of care.

It is so sad that people are experiencing poor systems, processes and organisational failure leading to the lack of ability for the health care professionals to work as a multidisciplinary team way particularly when patients have multiple problems. Instead they all work in silos and not as a team regardless of the many hospitals that some patients have to attend. I feel that it is really important to see the patient as a partner in their own care along with the healthcare professional. We need to get away from the paternalistic model of care to a mutual participation model of care in fact it is also one of the values called Patient Centered Care. Pulling the beast called the NHS together will take a great deal of MDT working and excellent Leadership. Sadly it is good leadership that we lack today.

I am a Patient Safety Partner and I believe having podcasts as seen above is essential. But I would like to see the net being much wider to involve the public as well. After all the tax payer owns the NHS and is entitled to know warts and all what is going on. This is the beauty of having PSP's in every trust if implemented well as it is in my trust. We are the public voice but above all we are the conscience of an organisation and can lead to improving the safety culture, learning and leading to a just culture.
