Summary
Following the announcement by US President Donald Trump (Monday 22 September 2025) that US physicians will soon be advised not to prescribe paracetamol (known as Tylenol in the US) to pregnant women, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Authority (MHRA) has produced a factsheet (attached) as well as additional information resources to support tackling misinformation the announcement has triggered.
Paracetamol is the first choice of painkiller if you're pregnant. It's commonly taken during pregnancy and does not harm your baby. The MHRA has confirmed taking paracetamol during pregnancy remains safe and there is no evidence it causes autism in children.
