WHO: Guidance on engaging patients and patient organisations in hand hygiene initiatives (2009)

Summary

Patient awareness, understanding and engagement is an important aspect to be considered in action plans to improve hand hygiene. This guidance encourages partnerships between patients, their families, and healthcare workers to promote hand hygiene in healthcare settings.

Positive engagement with patients and patient organisations in the pursuit of improving hand hygiene compliance by health-care workers has the potential to strengthen infection prevention and control globally and reduce the harm to patients caused by healthcare associated infection.
