Summary
This is the first in a series of blog posts by Suzette Woodward around implementing patient safety.
Part one describes the growing sense of unease about the way we do safety in healthcare and how we can do it differently. It describes the dominant approach to patient safety in healthcare we use today – which has been coined by some as Safety I.
About the Author
Suzette Woodward has spent her life working in the NHS; first as a paediatric intensive care nurse and then for the last two decades as a patient safety specialist.
A former executive board director at the National Patient Safety Agency and the NHS Litigation Authority, she also led the Sign up to Safety campaign for the NHS in England.
Suzette has an MSc in clinical risk and a doctorate in patient safety implementation.
