Summary
The NHS in England’s annual budget is £161 billion. Yet across the sector there is huge cause for concern, including the still-growing backlog, workforce issues, the state of the estate and the relentless demand on primary care. In this blog, ex-NHS strategic health authority chief executive Mike Farrar and Health Policy Insight editor Andy Cowper look at how these issues can be tackled to provide an NHS that meets the needs of the population. They cover the following subjects:
- Politics, policy and prevention
- System working and pivoting to prevention - how to shift resources
- Building a compelling case for change
- Moving towards less top-down-ism
- Being clear about what an ICS is for
- Culture change and mindsets shifts
- Resourcing change
