The strategy its shaped around seven strategic lines of action:

Strategic line of action 1: Safety culture, human and organizational factors and training

  • General objective 1.1. Improve the National Health System safety culture in all areas and at all levels

  • General objective 1.2. Encourage health professionals to take the lead on patient safety

  • General objective 1.3. Training

Strategic line of action 2: Safe clinical practice

  • General objective 2.1. Promote medication safety

  • General objective 2.2. Promote safe practices for preventing and controlling healthcare-associated infections

  • General objective 2.3. Promote the implementation of safe surgical practices

  • General objective 2.4. Promote the implementation of safe practices in patient care

  • General objective 2.5. Promote the correct identifcation of patients, samples and clinical documents

  • General objective 2.6. Promote communication among professionals and between professionals and patients

  • General objective 2.7. Promote the design and development of strategies for dealing with serious adverse events at healthcare facilities
