SEIPS in ActionSEIPS in Action is a comprehensive course designed to equip healthcare professionals with practical skills in applying the Systems Engineering Initiative for Patient Safety (SEIPS) framework.
Participants will gain hands-on experience in using SEIPS to enhance healthcare processes, supporting patient safety and system efficiency. This course combines theoretical coursework, an intensive live workshop, and extended mentoring to solidify learning and support real-world application.
Places are available for both NHS learners (free of charge) and learners who are not directly employed by the NHS (subject to a fee). HSSIB is not liable for any expenses that you may incur to attend the course.
Pre-requisites for this course are that you must:
have completed our flagship course ‘A systems approach to investigating and learning from patient safety incidents’ be an investigator have manager sign-off to attend both days of the course. For fee information and to apply, please email [email protected] with evidence that you meet the pre-requisites and your preferred location. Learners who meet the pre-requisites will be entered into a pool and notified if their application is successful.

Patient power: energising the 10-Year Health Plan through patient partnershipIf the 10-Year Health Plan is to deliver real change, patient partnership must be more than a buzzword, it must be the foundation. Patients continue to face disempowerment in a system that often speaks the language of partnership while maintaining deeply unequal power dynamics.
This session explores what meaningful patient agency looks like in practice, drawing on real-life insights from our helpline and focus groups. Patients consistently tell us they are left out of decisions, uninformed about their care, and too often treated as passive recipients rather than equal partners.
