    17 April 2024      18 April 2024

As we all know, Patient Safety remains an urgent global public health issue, pertinent to all health systems around the world.
Among the most important advances in recent years, the WHO’s publication of the first Global Patient Safety Action Plan 2021-2030 stands out, a roadmap that is expected to guide member countries in making decisions and implementing different strategies and measures with the aim of safeguarding the safety of care as a central axis of health policies.
The 2023 summit in Montreux marked another milestone in the series. It focused on implementing known measures and interventions. This is crucial to overcome the so-called implementation gap to further advance in strengthening patient safety .
The Chile 2024 Summit will delve into how different countries have managed to implement and sustain over time different strategies related to delivering safe health care in the framework of the 7 strategic objectives of the Global Patient Safety Action Plan, key lessons learned in the implementation process, results obtained and upcoming challenges, with the aim of gathering this knowledge and transforming it into national commitments to address concrete actions. This is why the summit 2024 will follow the overarching slogan of “Bringing and maintaining changes in patient safety policies and practices”.

Today, the entire world is working together to address one of history's most terrible public health issues. Humanity has been defeated by a virus and is attempting to restore regular functions while protecting its safety and health. Several tactics and policies have evolved as means of reducing the pandemic's spread and effects, and several are being tested and developed. The information and expertise contained within the field of Public Health are critical in this regard and are regularly revised and updated in the current circumstances. Among the various components of Public Health, Public Health Interventions have become increasingly used in altering public behaviour as a means of limiting disease spread.

As a result, the Global Conference on Public Health 2024 (Hybrid Conference) anticipates analysing and evaluating the capabilities of Public Health Interventions in managing the pandemic with the assistance of scholars and specialists in this field.

There are very few routine and reliable mechanisms for patients, carers and families to escalate past the primary team when concerned about standard care not meeting their needs. Failing to escalate in a timely manner timely can have adverse effects to patient outcomes. It has been recognised that having reliable patient and family escalation systems is also a quality marker of patient centred care. NHS England’s Worry and Concern Task and Finish Group (a subgroup of the Acute Deterioration Board) have run a national improvement collaborative from April 2023 for 12 months.
Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has participated in this pilot to develop, test, implement and evaluate methods to incorporate patients’ views of their wellness/illness and worries and concerns in the assessment and recognition of acute illness and risk of deterioration.

For the first time, Making Families Count are collaborating with SOFT UK, a charity that supports families caring for children with a rare and life-limiting genetic condition. Speakers will be drawn from the families and healthcare professionals who are part of the SOFT UK community, sharing their stories and lived experiences and giving suggestions that may help you support the families you work with.
The Department of Health UK Strategy for Rare Diseases (DHSSPS 2020) estimates that rare diseases, including genetic conditions, affect the lives of over 3 million people in the UK. Of these, a significant proportion are children with genetic life-limiting and life-threatening conditions. The parents of many of these children often talk of the challenges of parenting a disabled child and their sometimes stressful interaction with healthcare professionals.
This webinar will give you greater insight into the lived experience of families caring for a child with complex needs. We will explore their day-to-day challenges in dealing with the anxiety of hospital admissions, difficulties of communicating with and being heard by healthcare professionals, the challenge of balancing the needs of the whole family, and the stressful burden upon parents over time.
    This webinar is for…
Paediatric nurses Paediatric / Community nursing teams Complex Care Team (Paediatrics) Respite Care (Paediatrics) Play Specialists Hospital at Home teams (Paediatrics) Paediatric / Children’s Occupational Therapists Paediatric / Children’s Physiotherapists SALT Child Development Centre staff Paediatric Outreach Teams Presenters:

Una McFaddyn, a recently retired Consultant Paediatrician with a special interest in respiratory and neonatal paediatrics. Una has a long-standing interest in children’s rights and has worked with various projects involving children and parents as partners in care. She will provide the perspective of a healthcare professional on supporting families and their children.
You will also hear other voices from the SOFT UK community of families via several films and audio clips, bringing to life the experience of a wide range of parents who care for children with complex care needs.
    Learning outcomes:
At the end of this webinar, you will have an appreciation of the challenges facing parents who care for a child with complex needs – specifically the anxiety of acute admissions to hospital, communication issues with healthcare staff, and the wider impact upon families. You will be able to use that deeper understanding to shape the care and support you can offer these families in your own practice.
