Pain during IUD fitting
Michelle McAteer replied to PatientSafetyLearning Team's topic in Women's health
I had a mirena coil fitted 2 years ago to address menopausal symptoms. I can honestly say it was the worst pain I have ever experienced. That includes 2 normal vaginal deliveries, gall bladder surgery and pleurisy. I was not informed that it would be so painful. I drove myself to my appointment, but had to get a taxi back as not fit to drive. Was not offered pain relief, but during the procedure was told that as a 50 year old it would hurt as the cervix is less flexible, the older you get. That was an understatement! I fainted due to the pain. That all said it has addressed my problems and has been amazing. No periods, no pain, no discomfort or mood swings since having it inserted. I am dreading having it removed, but will be better prepared this time.- Posted
