Green Health Routes (NHS Forest, December 2022)

Summary

Research shows that access to green space can support mental and physical health and wellbeing, and reduce the incidence of chronic conditions such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and Alzheimer's. Green Health Routes can be used by GPs and other health professionals as part of social prescribing initiatives.

Green Health Routes support communities to connect with and get to know the parks, meadows and woodlands on their doorsteps. The projects begin with the creation of neighbourhood maps, developed in close consultation with communities, to highlight the areas’ publicly accessible green space.
