Summary
There are many definitions of therapeutic empathy, which sometimes contradict each other. This leads to variation in how the concept is practiced, taught, and researched. This study analysed therapeutic empathy definitions, finding six common components:
- exploring
- understanding
- shared understanding
- feeling
- therapeutic action
- maintaining boundaries.
