I came across this new book Courageous Leadership in Infectious Diseases and Public Health During Challenging Times by two American colleagues via the Infection Control Matters podcast and it takes an interesting approach, unlike many conventional textbooks on leadership and management. The editors sat down, interviewed and recorded many of the leading lights in the field of infectious diseases and public health to tap into their leadership wisdom. Each chapter is essentially a transcript of the questions and answers that emerged from these interviews so it's not formulaic or dry but very personal and fresh. Many of the issues touched on are relevant to the patient safety community, particularly those in or aspiring to leadership positions. A 30 page taster sample is available to read, to test the water, so to speak and I would highly recommend it.

Fascinating, thanks for sharing. I've started reading. Loved this advice:

'The Chief Nursing Officer at my hospital gave me great advice when I started, stating “You are no longer being paid for your subject matter expertise. You are now being paid for your leadership and ability to drive change, get people on board and be an inspirational leader…So, you must stop worrying about knowing everything - you have people for that, and they will help you.'
