    This event is designed for people working in mental health to come together to reflect on how we can improve the safety of our patients. There will be talks from experts, sharing of good practice and time for discussion with the opportunity to build networks.
    After attending this course you will:
    1. Be aware of some main areas in which patient safety can be improved
    2. Understand the importance of safety systems and how they can be used to develop better care
    3. Be able to build networks with others who champion patient safety
    The day will be chaired by Dr Wendy Burn, Consultant Psychiatrist at Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and Past President of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Keynote speaker is Professor Nav Kapur, Centre for Suicide Prevention at University of Manchester. 
    The event is for clinical staff and is eligible for 6 CPD points subject to peer group approval.

    This conference focuses on improving practice and patient safety to reduce extravasation Injury, ensuring front line clinicians are aware of the risk of extravasation and how to recognise, treat and escalate extravasation injuries when they do occur.
    This conference will enable you to:
    Network with colleagues who are working to reduce extravasation injury. Learn from outstanding practice in recognizing, treating and escalating extravasation  injury. Reflect on national developments and learning. Ensure vesicants are administered in the safest way. Develop your skills in training frontline staff to recognise evolving injuries.  Understand how you can implement preventative measures. Identify key strategies for improvement. Educate patients to raise alarm and improve consent procedures.  Develop protocols to support practice. Understand the role and competencies of the NHS trust lead for extravasation. Ensure effective treatment, and early intervention in severe wounds.  Learn from case studies in cancer, maternity, radiology and paediatrics.  Ensure you are up to date with the latest legal cases.  Self assess and reflect on your own practice.     Featuring leading legal experts and experienced clinicians this event will provide an update on current claims processes and how to respond to claims.
    The conference will look at the patient perspective and explore why patients decide to litigate. There will be an extended session on mediation and ADR. The conference will also update delegates on the new Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) and implications for Clinical Negligence Litigation.

    The Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) encourages investigations across the NHS to apply SEIPS. This 3 hour class will focus upon using SEIPS Surgery.  SEIPS trainer Dr Dawn Benson has extensive experience of using and teaching SEIPS, as a Human Factors tool, in health and social care safety investigation.  She will be joined in these sessions by clinical subject experts.
    The class will be limited to a small group to ensure in-depth learning.
