About me
I have had 3 heart attacks that has left me with a diseased and weak heart, I have diabetes, high blood pressure, hypothyroidism, severe spinal injuries, cellulitis, PAD, end-stage COPD, stage 4 kidney disease and cancer.
1st heart attack, I started as a patient participant in a heart study called IMACE2. I followed this with my next study as a patient on IMACE3.
At the same time I did a Clinical Research course and joined the European Research Ambassador Program.(ERAP). I was asked by the Public and Patient Involvement (PPI) lead for the Biological Research Centre (BRC)to help would-be PhDs to get their research question off the ground, pre-ethics. I also became a part of the East Midlands Research Champions and a Cancer Champion. I was asked to be a part of the Patient Research Engagement Panel, that is a part of the Research Space at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. Which had a part in the bid for the Patient Research Centre.(PRC) here in Leicester.
I was the asked to join The Management Group(TMG) as the Public and Patient Involvement lead for a large Diabetes study by Melanie Davis at the Diabetes Centre. After Covid hit, I started to work with the Leicester Partnership Trust on various projects, while still working for Kings & Imperial college on lateral flow tests and had joined a study and was injected with a Covid vaccine called Gensen.
I have done many studies since and now.
At the moment I am a member of the Older Persons Sounding Board (OPSB), I do research work with the Cicely Saunders Institute at Kings, the Leicester, Leicestershire, & Rutland Ageing Patient, & Public Involvement at Leicester University and LOROS. I am still on the long running studies PROTECT and PREDICT.
I am the co-applicant on the MiFoot study and the public co-applicant on the Lifemap-QUEST study.
I also help out at Nottingham University Pharmacy Dept. I have 3 students a week finding out what it is like to manage a large amount of different drugs.
