Summary
This is a written statement to the House of Commons by the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Minister for Mental Health and Women’s Health Strategy), Maria Caulfield MP, on behalf of the UK Government. In this she provides an update on how £150 million of capital investment in NHS mental health urgent and emergency care infrastructure is being used and announces the commencement of a rapid review into patient safety in mental health inpatient settings in England.

In this statement the Minister sets out that the rapid review will:
- Focus on data and evidence currently available to healthcare services, including information provided by patients and families.
- Consider how this data and evidence can be used more effectively to identify patient safety risks and failures in care.
- Be chaired by Dr Geraldine Strathdee, who is also the Chair of the Essex Mental Health Independent Inquiry.
- The review will be separate from, but complementary to, the Essex Inquiry.
