Sue Sheridan is hit with another medical error. This time, ChatGPT prevented the worst (27 August 2024)

Summary

As we approach World Patient Safety Day 2024 dedicated to diagnostic safety, Sue Sheridan shares with Patient Use AI a recent diagnostic error that she experienced.

"My intention of sharing my story is to generate learning, promote dialogue and inspire action. My use of ChatGBT was a last resort – not intended to replace a doctor – but to empower and equip me with information that ultimately led me back to the ED and to the right diagnosis and treatment.

As we approach WPSD, I am hopeful that we can celebrate our collective actions, but at the same time commit to 'raising the bar' and doing more to reduce harm from diagnostic errors and address the ingrained culture that dismisses and disrespects patients and families."

This year’s World Patient Safety Day on 17 September 2024 (WPSD 2024) is focused on the theme “Improving diagnosis for patient safety”. Find out more.
