The Public Policy Projects Cancer Care conference 2024 will build on last year’s programme as well as looking at some of the emerging policies in cancer care in 2024 especially in light of political changes. We will host five panels that focus on some key aspects of cancer policy, highlight examples of best practice and better understand what strategies can be harnessed and implemented to improve patient outcomes. Throughout the day delegates will have time to network and also learn about how innovation, sometimes through industry partnerships, is impacting cancer care.
Topics to be discussed
Given our understanding of the risk factors for cancer, how can we address these and work towards prevention of cancer How can genomics be harnessed in cancer prevention without creating greater health inequalities? How can we work towards earlier diagnosis across cancer types using women’s cancers to explore this How can we address the backlogs in cancer pathways (through the lens of prostate cancer)? What strategies can be implemented that effectively reduce health inequalities in cancer? Given the advances in digital technologies, what are the opportunities for future screening? What innovations can be implemented now to speed up diagnostics? Can screening become equitable? Register for the conference

This webinar hosted by Hourglass is part of an exclusive launch of an eye-opening research project by Amanda Warburton-Wynn.
This comes as a follow-up to Amanda's research from 2021, which lifted the lid on sexual violence against older people in hospitals across England, inspired by the tragic case of Valerie Kneale.
Three years later, this updated research project reveals the current situation and how in just a few short years, the issue has changed considerably.
In this webinar, Amanda will be speaking about how she conducted her research, what shocked her the most about her findings and what steps could be taken to prevent further abuse from occurring.
Attendees can ask questions in a live Q&A with Amanda and members of the Hourglass team.

Impartiality is central to the role of an investigator working to understand how a health event occurred. Achieving impartiality is a difficult task as the psychological research demonstrates how experts' perceptions and cognitions are affected by context, motivation, expectation, and experience.
A growing body of research has revealed the many sources of bias that affect experts' judgments as they perform their work. These sources of bias extend beyond the characteristics of the individuals who were involved in the event being investigated and include such things as the features of the information being considered, the reference materials, the investigative environment, and an individual’s base-rate expectations.
Professionals in fields such as forensic science, intelligence analysis, criminal investigation, and judicial decision-making are at an inflection point where they are considering both their current practices and new approaches. The investigation of health-related events is a professional domain that is in many ways analogous to the aforementioned decision-making environments. Yet, this investigation environment is also unique, as the sources, magnitude, and direction of bias are specific to the workplace setting.
This presentation will explore the broad issue of cognitive bias in investigative decision making, discussion sources of investigative bias, and offer suggestions to mitigate the effect of bias in an occupational health investigation.
