This year’s conference theme has been selected to help all of us focus on becoming more mindful of how we develop, use and succession plan within our healthcare simulation services.
We want to focus on sustainability to help support quality in simulation activity that enhances patient and team safety. This means we need to think about how we undertake service and learning needs analyses, how we plan our training and how to invest in our resources including staff, patients and colleagues, networking and educational equipment and software. And how we build our knowledge base, through the use of simulation as a research tool.
The really exciting part is that you are invited to join the ASPiH through abstract submissions to share your work, and by attending and joining in the conference events including keynote presentations and breakout sessions. The conference content and discussions will shape additional conversations that will form future healthcare simulation practices amongst the ASPiH network and beyond.

This joint conference hosted by The Mental Health – Time for Action Foundation and Safely Held Spaces is aimed at stimulating discussion and promoting change in the way mental health services view the role of the family in the therapeutic process.
Going beyond the “carer-patient” model, the conference brings into focus the broader perspective that mental health is not just an individual concern but involves the whole family system. Recognising the importance of the family system’s wellbeing promotes a more holistic approach to mental health.
Our objective is to foster an environment for learning and discussion about the latest evidence-based practices across the NHS and third sector organisations. The conference will encompass a series of talks, workshops, and interactive panel discussions. You will have the opportunity to engage with a network of families experiencing mental distress, paving the way for collaborative efforts.

The Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) arguably represents the most significant change to investigating and managing patient safety incidents in the history of the NHS. To embed PSIRF effectively within organisations, healthcare teams need to understand and utilise a range of new techniques and disciplines. Clinical audit is an established quality improvement methodology that is often overlooked by patient safety teams, but will play an increasingly important role in ensuring that PSIRF fully delivers its stated objectives.
CQC reports often highlight the importance of clinical audit as a measurement and assurance tool that can raise red flags if used appropriately. Indeed, both the Ockenden and Kirkup reports highlighted the importance of clinical audit in identifying and quantifying substandard care.
While SEIPS, After Action Reviews, more in-depth interviewing techniques, etc. are all receiving much fanfare in relation to PSIRF, the importance of clinical audit needs to be better understood. This short course will explain how organisations who use clinical audit effectively will increase patient safety and better understand why incidents take place. We will look at the key role of audit in understanding work as imagined and works as done and show why national audits can assist with creating patient safety plans. Change analysis and the effective implementation of safety actions are keys to PSIRF delivery and clinical audit will assist in the delivery of both. We will also demonstrate the important, but often under-appreciated role, clinical audit staff will have in the successful delivery of PSIRF.

The Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) sets out a new approach to learning and improving following patient safety incidents across the NHS in England.
PSIRF embedding webinars will feature presentations from NHS organisations and will focus on sharing experiences, adaptions and learning as the designed systems and processes put in place prior to transition are operationalised.
