We know that poor flow leads to poorer outcomes for patients, disengagement in the workforce and burnout among staff. This three-day course from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) will offer cutting-edge ideas for optimising patient flow throughout your hospital, to ensure safe, high-quality, patient-centred care.
Attendees will hear from the former Vice President of the IHI, Katharine Luther, as well as local experts and IHI leaders who have achieved exemplary patient flow outcomes.

Effective teamwork in the operating theatre or other clinical environments is a critical component of delivering safe, high quality care for surgical patients. This webinar, presented by Professor Bryn Baxendale, will review the attributes that are found consistently in high performing teams in many different contexts outside of healthcare and consider what these look like in surgical care. Current strategies and practices to help develop and sustain excellence in team working within the clinical environment will be reviewed, including the role of simulation. Finally, the webinar will highlight how the design of systems and processes can either assist or hinder the performance of our teams and will consider how this can be explored proactively through ‘stress tests’ to optimise future performance and be led by expert clinical teams in practice.
Part of a series of free webinars from The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
