Summary
Sir Stephen Moss, Patient Safety Learning Trustee, is the former Chairman of Mid Staffordshire Hospitals NHS Trust, following their damming Healthcare Commission report of 2009. In this interview with Patient Safety Learning, Sir Stephen tells us about lessons learnt and what more needs to be achieved to make the NHS one of the safest healthcare systems in the world.

About the Author
Stephen is a nurse by background and has over 30 years experience in posts at Board level, including Chief Nurse, Chief Executive, Non- Executive Director and Chairman. Stephen was appointed by the Secretary of State as a Commissioner on the Commission for Health Improvement. He was asked to undertake the role of Chairman at Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust following the highly critical report from the Healthcare Commission. Stephen was previously Chairman of the Department of Health Human Factors Reference Group. He has been a Non Executive Director and Senior Independent Director for the predecessor body of the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton Foundation Trust since 2013, twice being reappointed with his current term expiring in January 2020.
