DESCRIPTION:\n	Around 10% of people aged 65 and over live with frailty\,
with this figure rising to between 25%-50% for those over 85.\n\n\n\n	It'
s estimated that 300\,000 people living with frailty undergo surgery each
year. Frailty is recognised as a significant risk factor for complications
in both elective and emergency surgical patients and has a direct correla
tion to postoperative outcomes.\n\n\n\n	This study day will review frailty
in relation to surgery\, the many aspects of risk to the frail patient\,
risk scoring and what we as perioperative practitioners can do to mitigate
the risk of surgery.\n\n\n\n	Topics will include:\n\n\n\n	\n Recognising
frailty and frailty scoring.\n	\n	\n Perioperative anaesthetic managemen
	t.\n	\n	\n Hypothermia and venous thromboembolism.\n	\n	\n Skin integrit
	y and managing continence.\n	\n	\n Intercurrent infections impacting on e
mergency surgery.\n	\n	\n Cognitive function and considerations for patie
	nts with dementia.\n	\n\n\n\n	Register\n\n
